Copy Work: In honour of those who sacrificed so much for our country, please have your child copy "In Flanders Field" or a portion of it into his/her journal.

The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

This year on Remembrance Day I ...

The theme for journal writing during the month of November is "Canada". During this month the journal writing assignments will continue to focus on copy work, but a journal starter will also be provided.
A journal starter is the beginning of a sentence that the student copies and then completes with his/her own thoughts and ideas. Your child may choose to do either the copy work, or the journal starter, or both.
Copy Work: - Please have your child copy the national anthem into his/her journal.
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
Journal Starter:
Canada is a beautiful country because ...
