The Daily Physical Activity requirements for students from Kindergarten to grade 3 have been updated on the BC Ministry of Education website. You can access more details here: Daily Physical Activity
Kindergarten students are required to have 15 minutes of daily physical activity.
Grades 1, 2 and 3 students are required to have 30 minutes of daily physical activity.
Students are encouraged to participate in a variety of physical activities to increase their endurance, strength and flexibility. Some examples of activities that focus on these three categories include:
Endurance: brisk walking, dancing, swimming, biking, jogging, basketball, aerobics, fast dancing, fast swimming
Strength: rope or stair climbing, bat and racquet games, push-ups, weight training, rowing, skating
Flexibility: gentle reaching, bending, stretching of all muscle groups, dancing, gymnastics, swimming
Most students are already meeting the time requirements for their Daily Physical Activities. However during the remainder of the school year I encourage you and your child to focus on all of the categories of activities - endurance, strength and flexibility.
Be active and have fun!
