Journal Entry #7
Family Traditions is the theme for this journal entry.
Provide your child with a definition or an explanation of the meaning of
"tradition" such as "the passing on of information, beliefs or values through practices or activities that are often done during a particular time or event".
Because the Christmas season has just passed, my girls and I decided to journal about our Christmas traditions - some new and some old. We brainstormed and recorded a list of our traditions and then chose which traditions to emphasize in our individual journal entries.
Traditions may include activities such as baking gingerbread, preparing homemade gifts for neighbours, or participating in advent celebrations. Or they may include the sharing of values such as giving to the needy, the story of Christmas shared through music or books, or a special Christmas poem or scripture.
Traditions are an important part of being a family as they provide a sense of identity and belonging. Your older child may choose to journal about the importance of traditions in her life or about a favourite family tradition and what it means to her.
